There are many myths and mis-understandings regarding what it is to be a Mason, but the above video may help to dispel many of your preconceptions. 

HOW TO JOIN

The procedure is as follows: 

1. ​If you do not know a member who you can talk to contact the Lodge Secretary using the contact form below who will be pleased to answer any initial questions you may have. 

(You normally have to be over the age of 21 unless you are or are about to become a student in Higher Education in which case the Secretary will be able to give you details of the Masonic Universities Scheme.)

2. You will then be asked to write to confirm your interest by letter or email. 

3. Your letter will be considered by the lodge committee and two senior members will arrange to meet you and your partner (if any) at home to answer any further questions you and your partner may have. 

4. Following your home visit a notice of motion and will be put to the members in open lodge that you are seeking to become a member of the lodge and your application will be proposed and seconded. 

5. At a next regular meeting your proposal form will be read out in full to the members. A ballot will then be held and if it proves successful you can be initiated on that evening. 

6. There is a one off Initiation fee payable on the night, and in due course you will be required to purchase a set of regalia. 

WHO MAY  JOIN

Any man over the age of 21 may join regardless of ethnic group, political views, economic standing or religion although it is expected;

- that he is of good character and sincerely seeks intellectual and moral improvement for himself and others. 

- that he has a belief in a supreme being (God as you understand him).

- that he is able to afford the necessary expenditure without detriment to himself or his connections. Financial ability to pay lodge subscriptions and contributions to charity, without having an adverse impact on his family. (currently Walton Walker & Sandwell Lodge membership fees are £170 per annum and the dining fee after each lodge meeting is £22)

- that he is willing and able to make a commitment to attend Lodge meetings which are held eight times each year, on the fourth Thursday in every month from September to April, and to attend rehearsals, socials and other events. To visit other lodges and invite brethren from those other lodges to visit in return.

- that he will never seek commercial, social or pecuniary advantage from his membership.
